Red Deer Lake Trail is just south of the Rosevelt National Forest, it runs along the Middle St. Vrain River stopping at Red Deer Lake which is just under the St. Vrain Glacier.
We did this hike back in July as a warm up hike for Longs Peak. The plan for this one was to do some fishing and hike up to Red Deer Lake to have dinner.
As usual we only made it about 4 of the 5 miles to Red Deer Lake since Derek has spent so much time fishing, actually most of this hike was not along the trail but rather along the river
We ended up instead stopping along the river to have a snack, rest, and take in the scenery. Ok actually I took a nap while Derek went in chase of the elusive fish, Fox promised me she was guarding me from squirls and other such evil animals. Unfortunately as it turns out this river is not stocked and there wasn't a fish to be found.

On the way back out we stuck to the trail and ended up seeing all the stuff that we missed when we were down by the river, Like this rock overlook. We were basically on a cliff about 200 ft above the river.
